Butterick 4514 - Shawl and Travelling Case

About 1900

I can't wait to make up this one! I can imagine this being made up as Christmas presents for elderly relatives or for church bazaar tables. And true to the period, the maker is encouraged to decorate the case by embroidering a design of interlocking rings in feather stitch. Who among us has not taken long winter-time car trips in aging jalopies with not enough heat? Wouldn't you have wanted this tidy case for your shawl, with its handy pockets for a paperback, granola bar, gloves and a lip balm?
